Prototype

When I first started making my game I wanted to first create the environment so I attached some trees, texture for the ground and added a few rocks that would help my character hide from the enemies. My game is based off the Lord of the Rings movies, my character is an elf played in first person who has to hide from the orc soldiers and find the power ring at the end of the map; if he is spotted he must engage in combat.

The world and the the textures are coming out really well, I added terrain to my ground to give it a more natural look similar to a forest out of the movies, this I completed in a matter of at least an hour as I had to positioned them right. What I am finding difficult at the moment though is adding my First Person Controller to my character and when I added my PlayerController script to him the camera would not work so I am currently working on fixing that.

I have met all my targets especially gathering all the necessary materials for my game, as I said my world is completely done. I move onto the most important part and that is making my player and the NPC's move around the map.

  1. Hey Aaron, Just after reading your blog here and your idea here is so different well I'm sorry to say that I don't know much about Lord of the Rings but its cool to see that your character is not entirely human like most peoples. Good to see you are already working and fixing certain thing in your prototype it sound detailed. Have fun do more in your prototype hopefully it's not too much hassle.

  2. Hey Aaron, me again! I love the idea of your game, I've never seen Lord of the Rings but I understand what you meant! I love the environment, it looks so real? I had to double look thought it was just a picture you took lol. It looks like you've put in a lot of thought and effort into it! Best of luck with the game and maybe I'll even get to play it in the future! :) -Megan

  3. Hey Aaron, great blog post! I really like your game idea or hiding from enemies while trying to find the ring. Your game world looks really good and I'm looking forward to seeing it more developed with enemies trying to find the player. Will the player have powers that they can use against the enemies like a firebolt or invisibility? Best of luck in getting your first person camera to work and I look forward to seeing more!

  4. Hi Aaron, your game looks really well and its cool that your game is based of Lord of the Rings, I was just wondering are the trees and the surroundings you’ve got from the one asset pack or all from separate ones? Also, I see you said that if the player is seen they will have to engage in combat, what happens if the player dies? Will the game start again or is there checkpoints? Anyways, your game is looking great I would love to see the finished project (I’m also a Lord of the Rings fan). Anyways good luck with completing this!

  5. Hi Aaron,
This is a very good start, I also attempted to create and I actually enjoyed as I built a great environment for my player but unfortunately I not was able to use what I had done as an environment was not the only thing I was trying to achieve but it fun adding textures, trees and stuff. anyway I was wondering if you can add things that the player can collect on his way to the end of the map so the game is not all about hiding. Looking forward to see your final product, your game sounds promising.

Introduction

My name is Aaron Mulholland, I am 19 years old and I'm in my second year of college in TU Dublin doing Creative Digital Media. The module in which I'm doing this blog is for Multimedia Development 1 and I hope to pass this.... hopefully XD.  Before heading into TU Dublin I first went to a PLC in Dunboyne and did the exact same course I'm doing now; after completing my year there I decided I wanted to take a career in the art of designing on computers as I heard many positives about this chosen career especially in the money ! Technological University Dublin (TUD) logo   The hardest part of my first year occurred during the Lockdown during the early stages of Covid-19 when I was in my second semester. It was a tough time for work and trying to work at home and online with limited resources such as cameras, adobe software and the Mac's that the college provided which was where I did most of my work for the modules and to move from that to my Windows laptop was very diffi...

Games GDD

A game design document or GDD is basically the design brief before the development of a game this will include the following: 1. A summary of what the game is about. 2. A description of the layout of the game. 3. Who is the games target audience e.g. kids, teenagers, adults. 4. Where the game is set e.g. in space, another planet etc. 5. The controls and mechanics of the game. 6. What platform it will be used on PC, XBOX, Playstation. How do you create one Any format is acceptable but depending on the person and how they would like to present it they can use a variety of options such as Microsoft Word , Powerpoint, OpenOffice, Google Docs and any other type of text document. The brief should be very clear as it is not only useful when presenting it but also useful to look back over especially to the designer if they go off track when designing their specific game. My Favorite Game

Main logo for Red Dead Redemption 2 (2019) My Favorite Game that I have ever played since owning a console was Red Dead Redemption 2. This ought to be the best game of the decade and was also voted as the number 1 game of 2019 and has been labeled the best video game of  ALL TIME ! The game was able for all gaming consoles Xbox and PS4 and later came out on PC with a higher FPS and better graphics then the consoles a month later. Although the game itself was popular; many found the game demeaning, sexist and even racist at times but the game was set in the late 19th century where there was many of these acts committed. I guess the company that made the game "Rockstar Games" just wanted to capture what it was like to live during the golden age and end of gunslingers and law-breakers.  You play as Arthur Morgan, a old gunslinger along with his gang of criminals who are running away from the federal police who are keen on killing him and his crew and finally ending the...
